Overview: The IDH project aims to empower smallholder farmers (SHFs) and other aquaculture actors in eight counties of Kenya. Lattice, as the lead implementing partner, focuses on improving access to quality inputs, providing extensive training, and enhancing market access to boost productivity and sustainability in the aquaculture sector.

Interventions:

  • Improve Access to Quality Feed and Fingerlings: Ensuring SHFs have the resources needed for high productivity.
  • Farm-Based Training: Conducting training on best practices in aquaculture to enhance farmers' knowledge and skills.
  • MSME Training: Offering training to participants on managing small and medium-sized enterprises in aquaculture.
  • Market Systems Approach: Expanding access to markets through innovative approaches and partnerships.
  • Financial Products for Aquaculture: Partnering with lenders to design loan products tailored for the aquaculture sector.

Outcomes:

  • In-Depth Training: Provided to 50 farmers, equipping them with essential aquaculture skills.
  • Train-the-Trainer Programs: Targeted 500 farmers, ensuring widespread knowledge dissemination with 30% women and 30% youth participation.
  • Increased Production: Achieving 500 metric tons of additional fish production.
  • Job Creation: Creating 200 new jobs in the aquaculture sector.
  • Productivity Increase: Enhancing productivity by 50% through improved practices and inputs.
  • Enhanced Access: 90% of participants gaining better access to quality feed and fingerlings.
